inspiring story of giving back - kaitlin & chuck

Kaitlin and Chuck fell in love with THONTM and the mission of Four Diamonds during their freshman year at Penn State, as members of the Thespians and The Singing Lions. It was an incredible experience to see thousands of students with different background and interests all coming together for one very important cause – to help conquer childhood cancer.

Kaitlin’s involvement continued when she had the unique opportunity to dance in THON, and she later participated in The Hope Express, a 135-mile run from Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pa., to the home of THON, the Bryce Jordan Center in State College. While both of these experiences were challenging – both physically and mentally – Kaitlin drew inspiration from the thousands of Four Diamonds children and families who face extraordinary challenges every day.

For the past 40 years, THON and Four Diamonds have joined together to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. These organizations and their collective mission provide hope, and Kaitlin and Chuck are eager to help in any way they can.

So it seems only fitting that this incredible couple shared their love for THON and Four Diamonds on their wedding day. To thank their friends and family for being a part of this special milestone, Kaitlin and Chuck donated to Four Diamonds in lieu of traditional wedding favors and gave guests the option to make a donation instead of buying a wedding gift – raising nearly $1,000 for children and families fighting cancer.

We’re grateful for supporters like Kaitlin and Chuck who give us hope that one day we will conquer childhood cancer by funding the life-saving research needed to find a cure.

"Childhood cancer is a cause that is very close to my heart. It impacts too many families and takes too many lives. When my daughter asked me to help her organize a fundraiser to support Four Diamonds, I knew that I wanted to do something special. Gettysburg Rocks brings together local bands and Four Diamonds families for a bi-annual music festival in Gettysburg, Pa. I love doing live shows, but doing live shows that help other people in the process is what makes life worthwhile." - Rob Simon, Gettysburg Rocks Director
