MEET DAMON SIMSDamon Sims

Location: State College, PA

Connection to Four Diamonds: I am the Vice President for Student Affairs at Penn State and serve as an advisor to THON and one of the principal administrative liaisons to the organization.

Years of Involvement: Since 2008, when I first arrived at Penn State and began my Student Affairs leadership role.

How are/were you involved with Four Diamonds and THON?
I meet regularly with the student leadership of THON to provide advice about a range of issues affecting the group’s mission and activities. The chair of THON serves on my Student Leaders Roundtable, and I am a principal liaison between THON and the University administration.

Why is the partnership between Four Diamonds and THON important?
The many lives that have been improved, or even saved, by the work of THON and Four Diamonds are reason enough to sustain and grow this remarkable partnership.

What is your favorite memory?
My favorite memory is the opening ceremony of my first THON in 2009, when my young sons and I were introduced to the event’s spectacle and magic.

What is your dream for Four Diamonds and THON over the next 40 years?
That pediatric cancer can somehow be cured, or that its terrible impact on young lives can at least be lessened to the point where the extraordinary efforts of THON and Four Diamonds are no longer required in the way they have been and still are today.
