Dr. Pooja Rao and colleagues at Penn State College of Medicine recently published a study titled Educational and Occupational Aspirations of Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Survivors: A Qualitative Analysis. Adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors are patients diagnosed with cancer between 15 and 39 years of age. AYA survivors are often derailed from planned educational and occupational endeavors due to disruption from cancer treatment and its consequences. The study, which was funded by Four Diamonds, had an objective of examining how a personal cancer diagnosis impacted AYA survivors' experiences related to these endeavors.
Four Diamonds' Childhood Cancer Survivorship Clinic, made possible by generous donors, provides ongoing care that helps AYA survivors return to school, work and their life goals. One of the few programs of its kind, it supports not just medical recovery but long-term success and well-being.
