The holiday season is one of the busiest and most meaningful times of year for Child Life at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital. For children facing cancer and other serious illnesses, the holidays can feel different - routines are disrupted, families spend long days in the hospital, and many traditional celebrations are put on hold.

This is where Child Life steps in.

With support from Four Diamonds, the Child Life team helps children and families cope with the challenges brought on by cancer treatment by providing emotional support, therapeutic play and moments of joy that feel like a burst of normalcy. From easing anxiety during procedures to helping kids process big emotions through creative activities, Child Life specialists are a lifeline - especially during the holidays, when the need for comfort and stability is greatest.

Donations of toys and comfort items allow the team to create these moments. Your gift can become the distraction a child needs before a tough scan, the activity that helps siblings feel included or the celebration that brings a sense of magic back to the season. Every item has the potential to spark hope and make the hospital feel a little more like home.

What to Know Before You Donate

To ensure a smooth and safe experience for everyone, please review the following guidelines:

  • Visit the online wish registry or browse our Child Life Wish List for the most needed items.
  • Donations must be delivered BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, by contacting Child Life at childlife@pennstatehealth.psu.edu or 717-531-8366.
  • All holiday donations must be received by Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
  • Please do not gift wrap items or place labels or tags on any gifts.

Drive-Thru Donation Night
Tuesday, December 2 | 5–7 p.m.
No appointment needed. Drive up to the University Physician Center (the black glass building behind the hospital), and our Child Life team will greet you curbside, to accept your donation.

Community Donation Day
Saturday, December 13
An appointment is required. Email childlife@pennstatehealth.psu.edu to schedule your drop-off time.
