At Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital., the sweetest sound of the season is the bright, hopeful ring of a bell. For Four Diamonds children, that sound means the end of cancer treatment - a moment families dream of from the very beginning of their journey. As we look back on this year, we’re honored to highlight several brave patients who recently rang the bell and celebrated the start of a new chapter filled with hope.
Masyn
On May 16, 2023, Four Diamonds child Masyn was diagnosed with leukemia (a type of blood cancer), which would change everything. Her parents were overwhelmed and unsure of what the journey ahead would be like, but they were ready to support her through every step.
For the last two and a half years, Masyn spent anywhere from one to four days a week at Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital receiving treatment. She grew to recognize the faces of the nurses and staff who never failed to greet her with encouragement and kindness. Their steady support, along with the help of Four Diamonds, never failed to provide moments of joy even on the hardest days.
On October 30, 2025, Masyn finally reached the moment she had been dreaming of. Surrounded by the people who cared for her, cheered for her and believed in her, she rang the bell with a smile that stretched across her face. After years of treatment, the long chapter of cancer treatment had come to an end.
This holiday season, Masyn and her family are ringing in hope by being together and giving back. After all the love and support they received, they’re volunteering at Walnut Grove Therapeutic Riding Center and finding joy in helping others. They’re grateful for quiet moments, shared traditions and the chance to celebrate brighter days.
Westin
In September of last year, Westin was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (a cancer of the nervous system). His mom, Andee, couldn’t believe what was happening and felt her world start to crumble. All the plans for their future began to shift and change in a big way.
Westin completed multiple rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy. The treatments were difficult and often made him feel very sick, but his medical team at Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital provided compassionate and personalized care that made all the difference.
Last month, after a little over a year of treatment, Westin rang the bell on November 19, 2025, marking a significant milestone in his neuroblastoma treatment! For his family, that sound represented endurance, resilience, and healing.
This season, Westin’s family is ringing in hope with togetherness. After a year marked by hospital visits and uncertainty, simply being able to gather, rest and enjoy the small moments feels like a gift.
“Hope used to mean surviving. Now, it means a full life ahead,” said Andee, Four Diamonds mom to Westin.
Isabel
When Isabel was three years old, she was diagnosed with leukemia. Her mom, JoAnna, remembers feeling helpless and terrified, wishing she could take every ounce of pain away.
Isabel spent eight months in active, intensive treatment. During that time, she and her mom spent many days at the hospital, where Isabel found comfort in the playroom. Eventually, she entered the maintenance phase, allowing her to return to school, see friends and regain a sense of normalcy.
“Despite the storm, we have experienced more blessings than we could ever count. We are so grateful for the love, prayers and support we have received,” said JoAnna, Four Diamonds mom to Isabel.
On September 9, 2025, surrounded by family, friends and her care team, Isabel rang the bell to mark the end of treatment. For Isabel’s mom, it was one of the best moments of her life as it symbolized Isabel’s perseverance. For Isabel, it simply meant no more medicine.
This holiday season and even the ordinary days, Isabel’s family is grateful for the little things in life. They plan to spend the holiday season enjoying their decorated Christmas tree, watching holiday movies and soaking in time together.
“We are so grateful to be able to spend time with our little family, truly cherishing the little things. We have learned all too well just how precious the little things in life are. We do not take a single moment for granted,” said JoAnna.
Now thriving in kindergarten, Isabel is embracing the joys of childhood that cancer once tried to steal. Her family feels grateful and hopeful for her future.
Logan
After months of not feeling well and a persistent mother’s intuition, Logan and her family began what felt like an endless search for answers. They visited countless doctors and underwent numerous tests. On April 10, 2023, they finally received an answer, but not one they could have ever prepared for: Logan had leukemia.
From the very beginning, treatment was difficult for Logan. Within the first few days, Logan struggled to do things that were once easy, like sitting up, standing and walking. Her treatment included many inpatient hospital stays, outpatient infusions and appointments. Her small, 2-year-old body struggled to handle it all. The thought of reaching the end of treatment felt like an impossible dream.
“I remember looking at the treatment roadmap and wondering how we would ever get there,” said Jennifer, Four Diamonds mom to Logan. “But Logan never gave up. Even on the hardest days, she kept fighting with a quiet strength that amazed everyone around her.”
On July 23, 2025, Logan rang the bell celebrating the end of her cancer treatment. For Jennifer, that moment represented more than finishing the roadmap. It was a celebration of everything Logan had overcome.
“That moment filled me with so much hope for her future, hope for all the doors she has yet to open, all the laughter, love and adventures still to come,” said Jennifer.
This holiday season feels especially meaningful for Logan’s family. They’re cherishing every moment and surrounding themselves with the family and friends who supported them with prayers, check-ins, meals and uplifting moments along the way.
“Now, we get to celebrate. We get to laugh together, make new memories and simply enjoy being present, something we’ll never take for granted again. As we look back with gratitude, we also want to look forward with hope,” said Jennifer.
When Bells Ring, Hope Follows
As we reflect on the journeys of these four remarkable children, one thing becomes clear: each bell that rings carries a story of courage, perseverance and unwavering hope. This season, those chimes feel even more meaningful, reminding us of the light that can emerge even from the darkest and most challenging times. At Four Diamonds, our mission to support children and families facing childhood cancer continues to guide everything we do. With the dedication of our donors, partners and community, we will keep working to ensure that more children reach this milestone and step into a future filled with hope.
